Flagy, Haute-Saône

Flagy is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Flagy situated at an altitude of 236 m above sea level, about 10 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the northeast of the basin of Vesoul, on Bâtard, on the southern edge of the Bois du Château.

The area of ​​9.70 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Vesoul. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Bâtard, which provides for drainage to Durgeon. While the valleys in the northern part is relatively narrow, it widens just before Flagy on at the mouth of Ruisseau de Vienne to a broad alluvial plain. This has a maximum width of two kilometers and is on average 235 m. It is primarily used for agricultural purposes. A plateau passes through east to the basin of Saulx.

Flanked the plain to the south of the forest heights of Fougetot (326 m) and Grand Boisson, on the 338 m with the highest elevation of Flagy is achieved. They are constructed from a rugged limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period. To the north, the land rises gradually to the vast forest area of the Bois du Château ( to 335 m). Neighboring communities of Flagy are Breurey- lès- Faverney and Le Val -Saint- Eloi in the north, and Varogne Vellefrie in the east, Colombier and Villeparois in the south and Auxon in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman traffic route and a Gallo-Roman settlement site bear witness to the early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Flagy in 1169th In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. It was the center of a small rule. Together with the Franche -Comté Flagy came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today is Flagy administrative headquarters of the comprehensive six localities municipal association Communauté de communes of Six Villages.

Attractions

The three-nave church of Flagy village was built in the 19th century. From the 16th century comes a manor house with round tower and spiral staircase. The covered Lavoir was built in 1850 and once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 155 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Flagy is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 274 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Flagy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Vesoul after Conflans -sur- Lanterne. Further road links exist with Vellefrie and Le Val -Saint- Eloi.
