The monastery Flaran ( Flaranum ) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Valence- sur- Baise in the department of Gers, Midi- Pyrénées, France. It is located about 8 km south of Condom and 35 km north-west of Auch in a loop of Baise just below the confluence of the Auloue, near the Via Podiensis the Camino de Santiago.

History

The monastery was founded in 1151 on the images provided by the Benedictines of Condom disposal site and from a monastery Gründungskonvernt from L' Escaladieu populated belonged to the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon. The monastery, which quickly came to prosperity, experienced from the mid-13th century, a decline of discipline. 1274 was founded by the Count of Armagnac Flaran and the Bastide of Valence- sur- Baise. At the end of the 15th century, the abbey fell into coming. In 1569 it was destroyed by the Protestants under Montgomery. The French Revolution led to his resolution; it was sold and continued as an agricultural operation. In 1970 there came after an arson in the property of the department and has been converted into a cultural center.

Buildings and plant

Built 1180-1220 Romanesque church has a dreijochiges, vaulted with a resting on transverse arches conical buoy nave with narrow aisles, an expansive transept, the south also one with a conical buoy on transverse arches, in the north with ribbed vaults, each with two semi-circular enclosed, half dome vaulted chapels on the East Side and a choir on a similarly semi-circular apse closed. Main facade and south transept façade each have a relatively large oculus on the main facade to two round-arched windows closed and the Romanesque portal without tympanum. The exam is north (left) of the church. From the early days of the monastery of the east wing with sacristy, Armarium, chapter house (similar to the L' Escaladieu ) receive and partially the monk hall and some of the north wing with calefactory, refectory and kitchen, while the cloister from the 14th century and the building in West with a guest wing come to a courtyard and stables of late and post-medieval period.
