Flat tire

Wheel change ( technical terminology also replugging, colloquially erroneously referred to as a tire change ) is the exchange of complete wheels ( tires on rims) in motor vehicles, as it is done when changing between summer and winter tires, but even with a flat tire. A wheel change can be performed as opposed to change tires yourself. To lift the vehicle, a lifting aid such as a jack is being used. The wheel nuts are solved using a cross wrench, a torque wrench or similar tool and tightened.

In contrast to the wheel change another tire is mounted on the rim during a tire change, which can only be done by a garage or a tire dealer in the rule.

Tire exchange

Some counselors recommend car to swap the wheels when changing a wheel against each other to compensate for the possibly asymmetric abrasion. However, tires of different makes, different age or wear and tear should not be mounted on the same axis. In addition to be made in unidirectional tires, no left-right exchange as these - once on rims - should only come on the same side of the vehicle used.

Since the tires are worn more generally on the drive shaft primarily in front- driven vehicles, it can also be useful when installing it in the following season on the other axis. For security reasons, the better pair of tires to be mounted on the rear axle for the snowy winter months. Especially with winter tires, this reduces the probability of breaking out of the rear of the vehicle.

Therefore, the following exchange strategies for non- directional tread arise:

  • Cross (left back against the right front, right rear to left front): Here, the abrasion is best balanced, what is delaying the need to purchase new tires may order a season.
  • If the front wheel drive then the replacement of the front tire is a little earlier due that remain, however, longer rear ( rear left against the right rear, left front to right front ) on page. It's also useful when a sawtooth appearance.
  • Combination of both: The front wheels are the same both mounted to the rear; the rear wheels diagonally forward ( or vice versa). Through this method you can reach a particularly uniform wear of the profile, as each individual tire sooner or later every mounting position by running the vehicle.

Unidirectional tires, however, must necessarily about axis (left rear front against the left, right back against the right front) changed or may not be reversed at all.

Tightening

Tire manufacturers and repair shops recommend a tightening of the mounted wheels after 100 km of the risk of a possible Radverlusts lower. Manufacturer-related torques for tightening are observed.

Changing wheels in the literature

1957 appeared Bertolt Brecht 's famous poem The wheel change.

From Yaak Karsunke there is a poem called Matti changes the wheel.
