Flavobacterium

The bacterial genus Flavobacterium (from Latin flavus = yellow) comprises Gram-negative, aerobic, microaerophilic rods 4-8 microns in length. It contains some fish pathogenic species that were formerly attributed to the genera Cytophaga and Flexibacter. The colonies are yellow -orange pigmented up, hence the name.

A special feature to mention that many species of the genus Flavobacterium have a high up vast proportion of branched chain fatty acids in their membrane lipids.
