Fleurville

Fleurville is a commune with 485 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the Burgundy region.

Geography

The village lies on the right bank of the Saône, about 17 kilometers north of Macon. Across from Fleurville flows into the river Reyssouze in the Saône. Just above begins the Canal de Pont -de- Vaux, which is closed to the Saône with the lock Fleurville. This channel is only three miles long and is now used only for tourism purposes. Fleurville is within the defined limits of the wine-growing Burgundy region. Defined areas are approved for the production of wines under the appellation Bourgogne.

History

Around the year 1900, Fleurville also a railway junction: From Macon led a railway line over Lugny by Fleurville, another led by Fleurville to Pont -de- Vaux. All of these rail lines are no longer in operation today.
