Flipchart

A flip chart (also flip chart, english for page-turning chart to German: Chalkboard writing pad ) is a visual tool for graphical support, such as lectures, presentations, meetings and group work.

The flip chart stand

The flipchart consists of a large plate ( usually magnetic, ), above a clamping device for the flipchart paper, a bottom tray for pens and an extendable stand ( sometimes on wheels ). The stand has three legs that can be adjusted in length mostly.

Flipchart paper measures just 100 x 70 cm, is mostly unlined, occasionally checkered in a wide grid, by writing fixed for felt pens (70 to 80 g / m²) and is usually delivered in 20 blocks. Above, it is perforated and is plugged onto the pin on the flip chart stand and fixed to the clamping device. A perforation is to tear off the leaves. Alternatively, the sheet is scored before tearing off with a pin.

Didactics

The flip chart stand is easily visible from the inside of the room (not the window) erected.

The lecturer writes with thick felt pens ( colored markers) on the flip chart paper block. Drawings and diagrams make content visually experienced. With bold chalks areas are highlighted. Described sheets are separated and suspended with masking tape or a magnetic strip on the wall. This results in a continuous log.

On a flip chart, a topic can be interactively developed and documented with the participants. This enabled the participants and enhances the working or learning success.

History

The flip chart was invented by John Henry Patterson, the U.S. sales pioneer and founder of NCR Corporation.
