Floradorp

Floradorp (Flora Village ) is a neighborhood in Amsterdam Noord. Floradorp (relationship -oriented Bloemenbuurt ) had on 1 January 2012 in Zuid (South) in 2264 and in Noord (North) 2371 inhabitants

History

Floradorp, former name " Tuindorp Buiksloterham ", was created 1900-1925 and is one of the garden cities of Amsterdam ( in Dutch: Tuindorp ). The area, also called Bloemenbuurt, lies between the Kamperfoelieweg, Johan van Hasseltweg, Sneeuwbalweg, the Floraweg and is popularly known also de Rimboe.

Even in the early years (1920 ), the district was nicknamed Rimboe ( " jungle " ), probably because of the many mosquitoes and malaria occurring there. However, the origin of the name is no longer determine exactly. The name may have originated because of the high and excessive fouling in the time when the area was not inhabited. Today the term is often associated with present there youth gangs, used as the "Flora Boys" and the " De Petjes ". The roads in Floradorp are often named after flowers, including Dotterbloemstraat ( marsh marigold ), Bloemstraat (Flower Street ), Pinksterbloemstraat ( meadowfoam ), Kamperfolieweg ( honeysuckle ). 90 % of homes are social housing.

The first built apartments were meant for salaried workers and their families and were not " unnecessary luxury " (for example: bathroom) included. The rents were correspondingly low and the individual rooms are small (minimum dimensions). Between 1927 and 1929, then 600 new dwellings were built for larger families and 1995, the older homes renovated.

In Floradorp the flora park and a swimming pool that Floraparkbad, a retirement home and a youth center is located. The documentary " Kerstmis in Floradorp " ( Christmas in Floradorp, 1997) was the Nederlands Film Festival with the film Price: awarded Best documentary film ( Gouden Kalf ) for the "best long Documentatie ".

Floradorp / Bloemenbuurt

About the names Floradorp or Bloemenbuurt (flower district ) there are different interpretations. The " service Ruimtelijke Ordening " (Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning ) informed that it is the same neighborhood with two different names. The Huurdersvereniging Floradorp ( Mietervereinigung Floradorp ) considers the Floradorp is part of Bloemenbuurt. Publieksvoorlichting, Stadsdeel Noord sees the Bloemenbuurt as a large residential area, which is, however, no apartes district.

The author Wil Swart writes the former polder Buiksloterham contained only a few farms. 1903, a report was published of the area north envisaged as an industrial area and a residential area for workers' families by IJ. In 1929, the village Floradorp was completed.

From the archives of the housing association Ymere shows that the district has been created with the official name Tuindorp Buiksloterham. Later it was given the name Floradorp. Since Floradorp was associated with " Rimboe " (because of high unemployment, poverty and crime), the inhabitants called the area Bloemenbuurt. Both terms are used for the district of institutions and organizations.

Between 1918 and 1945 ( Tuindorpen ) were built around 90,000 homes in the Amsterdam garden cities, including Tuindorp Oostzaan Floradorp, Disteldorp, Vogeldorp Nieuwendam and Buiksloot. Both authors write about Floradorp, without regard to the Bloemenbuurt because the name came into being afterwards.
