Florida Power & Light

Florida Power & Light Corporation ( FPL) is an American energy company, the subsidiary of NextEra 500 listed in the S & P Energy, Inc., headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida.

FPL was founded in 1925 in Florida and supplies around 4.5 million customers in Florida with energy.

Power plants and nuclear power

The company owns 83 plants in which fossil-fueled electricity is generated, accounting for two-thirds of the total energy produced in 2007.

FPL is the largest shareholder and operator of the two nuclear power plants Saint Lucie and Turkey Point in Florida, each with two reactors and a total capacity of 2,939 MW; by 2012 this will be increased to 400 MW.

In October 2007, the construction of two more reactors at Turkey Point has been requested with a total output 2200-3040 MW. The reactors should be completed in 2018-2020. It was reported in January 2010 that the planning of the reactors was Turkey Point 6 and 7 set.
