History

Floridablanca is a Spanish word meaning " white flower ".

The town was founded in 1823 as Hacienda or settlement of Spanish monks of the Augustinian Order. The mission was part of the parish in Lubao and was responsible for the local priest.

They set up a makeshift hut which served as a chapel, and named the place San Jose de Calumpaui in honor of Joseph, the local saint was in the episode.

The main intention of the Spanish priest was the evangelization of the Aetas to Christianity, and at the same time the spiritual care of the few Spaniards and their Filipino farm workers who settled here and cultivated the land.

About the exact location of the chapel there are two conflicting opinions. Some are of the opinion that she was in San Nicolas or Calumpaui, while others take the view that it was in San Jose. However, both opinions may be true in so far as that San Nicolas was a former settlement ( Sitio ) and part of the vast estates of San Jose.

Before 1823 no official documents which could prove the circumstances of the foundation or origin of the name.

There are two most popularly explanations also about the origin of the name. One is that the name Floridablanca back in honor of a certain Count of Floridablanca, which is said to have visited the place in the early 19th century and game hunting. However, missing from the entire history of the country, the reference to a count of that name, is said to have visited the country.

Secured is a graph with the name José Moñino, conde de Floridablanca (* 1728-1808 ), Spanish statesman and Chief Minister of Spain from 1778 to 1792, but he never set foot on Philippine soil.

The other explanation is rooted in the existence of belonging to the family of plant Tabernaemontana Tabernaemontana pandacaqui poir the abundant thrived in the lush green forests and at that time in the territory of present-day Florida Blanca. This plant has numerous white flowers and is 2.5 m high. It is greatly appreciated and is often used as a medicinal plant for various ailments.

It is therefore assumed that the Spaniards as they sat foot on the bottom of today's Florida Blancas and the large number of white blooming Tabernaemontana pandacaqui poir saw the place Floridablanca called. It was only on 30 April 1867 church was from the religious leadership in Lubao officially established in Floridablanca, after which the congregation moved its headquarters here in Lubao.

The place where the seat of the parish was transferred was formerly called Manggang Punlod because there has found a large fallen mango tree.

The reasons for the shift were probably:

  • The resistance of the Aetas against the subjugation and Christianization
  • The proximity to two major rivers, the Gumain and Porac, which were extensively used for transport.
  • Access to the then most important places of Lubao and Guagua region.

In the 1920s, the Pampanga Sugar Mill ( PASUMIL ) was founded in Baranggay Del Carmen, who was to become one of the major sugar producers in the Philippines later.

1947 directed the Air Force of the Philippines on a previously used by the Americans military airfield one of the Air Force Base Basa Air Base.
