Florin Curta

Florin Curta ( born January 16, 1965) is a Romanian -born American historian with a focus on the history of medieval Eastern Europe.

Curta studied from 1984 to 1988 History at the University of Bucharest. 1990 to 1993 he worked as an archaeologist at the Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest. Since 1993, he studied at Western Michigan University, where he received his doctorate in 1998. Since 1999 he has been Professor of Medieval History and Archaeology at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Curta is a specialist in the field of the history of the Balkans. He has published several important publications, such as the late ancient Slavs and the history of Southeast Europe in the early and high Middle Ages.
