Fly540

Fly540, actually Five Forty Aviation Limited, the first Kenyan low cost airline is based in Nairobi and based on its airport Jomo Kenyatta International.

History

Fly540 was founded on 24 November 2006. At that time it was operating only between Mombasa and the capital Nairobi with an ATR 42 order you connecting the capital to the tourist destinations on the east coast around Mombasa. In fiscal year 2008 (to September 30) 171 160 passengers were transported, representing an increase of 93 % compared to 2007 ( 88 571 passengers). The largest shareholder of Fly540 is a 49% Lonrho Aviation (BVI ) Limited.

Destinations

The airline performs both passenger and cargo flights. In Kenya, among other things, Malindi and the nature reserve of Masai Mara is served next to Mombasa. In international passenger traffic destinations in Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Angola and Ghana are served.

Incidents

  • On August 13, 2008, compared clock 07:30 local time, a cargo plane crashed Fokker F-27 -500 Fly540 Logistics Ltd.. when landing from the airport Namber Konton about 50 km south of Mogadishu. In the crash, all three crew members were killed. The aircraft with the registration 5Y - BVF Kath transported from Kenya to Somalia.
