Fontaine- Étoupefour is a commune with 1949 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Calvados in the Basse -Normandie.

Geography

Fontaine- Étoupefour is located approximately four kilometers south-west of Caen in the Valley of Odon off the Autoroute A84. The site is bordered to the north directly to Verson. The area of ​​the municipality is 508 ha, of which approximately 65 % is used for agriculture. fertile soils are composed of limestone and loess.

History

1944, the church was the site of the Battle of Caen shortly after the Allied landing in Normandy. In the southeast of the city of Colline 112, a strategically important hill in the Second World War lies. The hill was the site of Operation Jupiter ( 10 to 11 July 1944) in the "Hill 112 " was conquered.
