Fontenay-Trésigny

Fontenay- Trésigny is a commune with 5218 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region; it belongs to Arrondissement Provins Canton and Rozay -en- Brie.

Place names were: Fontenetum in bria - Fontenaio - villa fonteneio - Fontenay en brie and Fontenay- Trésigny. The place name Trésigny appears only in the 18th century, after the title of Marquis de Trésigny had been created. The name Fontenay- Trésigny was adopted after the revolution.

Attractions

  • The first mentioned in the 12th century Château du Vivier, an old hunting seat of the first Capetians, was restored by King Charles V. Charles VI. stayed here during his psychic attacks.
  • The castle of the Marquis de Trésigny dates from the 17th century. It was rebuilt in the 19th century. Other aristocratic seats are the Château d' Ecoublay, the Château de Bellefontaine and the Manoir de Chaubuisson.
  • The church of Saint -Martin from the 15th/16th. century
