Food-Court

As a food court refers to a zone within a building, in which there are outlets operated by various independent restaurants and snacks, but the seats are installed in shared seating.

The roots of the food courts rich in the U.S. date back to the 1960s; in the 1970s, they won the day, as this, for example, in shopping centers ( malls) and airports have been installed. In Germany, the urban development of many shopping malls, outlet stores have emerged, and the like with food courts, particularly in recent years in the context and thus have led to their extensive acceptance in Germany.

The selection of participating restaurants and snack bars can vary locally strong; but usually restaurants are represented by fast-food chains.

A pure collection of several dining establishments without common seating area is not designated as a food court.

Examples of food courts in Germany

  • Skyline Plaza Frankfurt: The largest food court in Frankfurt's urban design and with 16 Food Stores
  • CentrO: The Coca Cola oasis with 1,200 seats one of the largest food courts in Europe
  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport: Approximately 1/3 of the planned restaurant space of the new airport will be summarized in a 1,800 m² food court on the balcony above the square.
