Food security

Food security and food security are related to the availability of food and access to food. A household is considered " food secure " if its members do not go hungry or have to worry about malnutrition. According to FAO (2003) Around 852 million people worldwide suffer from chronic hunger by extreme poverty and for up to 2 billion people, diet is at least temporarily uncertain.

According to the World Resources Institute, global per capita food production in recent decades has risen sharply. In 2006, MSNBC reported that there are now more overweight than undernourished worldwide.

The University of Hohenheim opened its Centre of Excellence Food Security in June 2009.
