Football in Russia

Football is a popular sport in Russia. The greatest international success had been winning the European Championship in 1960 by the Soviet national team as well as the UEFA Cup victory of CSKA Moscow (2005) and Zenit St Petersburg ( 2008) and the semi-finals of the Russians at Euro 2008.

Club operation

The football teams of Russia financially depend in large part by their funders and write deep in the red. Tickets and Merchandise are only a small part of the budget. The official Russian Football Union is the Rossijski Futbolny Soyuz (RFS ).

In addition to the Premjer - League, the second division is organized the 1st Division in 1994 as a nationwide professional league, currently with 22 teams.
