Forchheim–Höchstadt railway

The railway line Forchheim - Hochstadt an der Aisch joined the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim with the county town of the former neighbor Hoechstadt circle in the lower Aischgrund. It is also called Aischgrundbahn (not to be confused with the Aischtalbahn ), shepherds creek valley railway or Hemhofenbahn called.

History

The 23 km long standard gauge branch line was opened by the Bavarian State Railroad on 16 November 1892.

In the 1990s, the railway line was part of a planned maximum network of city -suburban railway Erlangen, a project of the City of Erlangen and the counties of Erlangen- Hochstadt and Forchheim. Last time was as a first stage of the resumption of a diesel-powered passenger traffic between Forchheim and Hemhofen perspective and planned its extension to Hoechstadt. In 2002, the negotiations broke down to this re-commissioning, as the neighboring communities, the associated financial risk did not want to take over.

As a result, DB Netz, a trial began in late 2002 according to § 11 AEG for dispensing and decommissioning of rail infrastructure facilities for the remaining portion of Forchheim Hemhofen. The efforts of the German regional train that had leased the section then for a time were unsuccessful. On 1 April 2005 the section was shut down.

On September 4, 2007, the Federal Railway finally opened the participation process for the final exemption ( declassification ) of the entire 22 km long route, which was completed in accordance with the application on 21 February 2008. Operating situation station Forchheim

At Forchheim station still branches off the branch line to Vierling. Until about 1990, the track 1 resulted directly from the train station to Hochstadt, the platform 5 directly from the train station to Behringersmühle. As part of the renovation work, the two outer rails of the bridge were shut down and the tracks 1 and 5 in the station area is threaded directly into the main route to Nuremberg.
