Formosan Association for Public Affairs

The Formosan Association for Public Affairs (English Formosan Association for Public Affairs, FAPA ) is a nonprofit organization, which target the worldwide support of Taiwan independence through active public relations and information policy, inter alia, has through lobbying. The name " Formosa " is the Portuguese name " Ilha Formosa " borrowed from the Portuguese colonialists gave her in 1583 when they were discovered.

Three main associations

FAPA USA

The first FAPA was in Los Angeles founded in 1982 in the U.S. by Taiwanese who are resident in America. With its 55 associations in the U.S., the USA FAPA care as the first and largest FAPA to the goals and interests of Taiwanese people all over the world, provides politicians, the media and the American people in the U.S. Information about Taiwan and especially the Taiwan conflict. The current headquarters of the FAPA U.S. is in Washington DC.

FAPA Young Professional Group

The FAPA Young Professional Group is a subsidiary association of FAPA United States, whose members come from the second generation of Taiwanese Americans between 20 and 30 years. Your goals are the same as those of the U.S. Central Association. The YPG organized annual regional in addition to some events, a national conference in Washington DC, during which the participants will be given the opportunity to interview members of Congress about the relationship between the U.S. and Taiwan.

FAPA Canada

The FAPA Canada was originally founded as an association of FAPA United States in 1984 in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, but emancipated himself in December 1993. FAPA Europe

The FAPA Europe was founded in 2007 in Athens, Mainz and Freiburg im Breisgau as European, emancipated offshoot. It supports the independence of Taiwan and proceeds methodically similar to the FAPA U.S. and the FAPA Canada.

Members

FAPA Europe launched on 1 March 2007 with three founding members. Since then, the number of members rose through active recruitment and special use of online media such as StudiVZ or Yahoo Groups to 56 members. The countries of origin of the members are mostly Germany, Greece, France and the Netherlands.

Measures

The FAPA does not operate independently of the government of the Republic of China, but consults with her in formal and informal meetings. Current Measures of FAPAS are, inter alia, Letter writing campaigns to the respective members of parliament and press releases on Taiwan conflict in the international arena. So far, several articles in various U.S., Canadian and European ( Germany, England, Greece) were published national print media. In addition to various articles of the various FAPAS, FAPA Europe has committed a UN action, in which EU citizens can print their prescribed letter and can send to the respective government.
