Fort Wadsworth Light

P4

Fort Wadsworth Light is a lighthouse built in 1903 above the Battery Weed on Staten Iceland in New York Harbor. The beacon marked The Narrows, the entrance to New York Harbor. It is located under the Verrazano -Narrows Bridge. Fort Wadsworth Light was a part of the properties that were transferred from the U.S. Navy in March 1995 to the National Park Service as the Gateway National Recreation Area was established.

The scope of the white light duration was 14 nautical miles ( 26 km). The optics in 1903 probably moved here from Fort Tompkins Light. The release of the Verrazano- Narrows Bridge in 1965 made the building obsolete. After many years of service it was restored in 2005 and converted by volunteers solar operation.
