Fortaleza Metro

Metrô de Fortaleza is managed by the railway company Metrofor, replacing the previous Superintendencia de Trens Urbano de Fortaleza which was responsible in collaboration with the CBTU. The Metro system is to transport day after its completion approximately 485,000 passengers.

History

The Metrofor was founded in May 1997 with the aim to modernize the rail-based public transport system of Fortaleza, what was until then the task of public railway company CBTU.

The construction of the metro began in January 1999 with the construction of a railway line that separated the freight traffic from passenger traffic, the wrong up to this point on the same stretch of Companhia Ferroviária do Nordeste.

The actual construction of the metro began in 2001 with the construction of the line Linha Sul. Overview of the transport system

Metrô de Fortaleza will receive a total route length of 62.8 km. Of these, the largest line runs above ground during 16 km of lines are planned underground and 4.4 km on high railway tracks. The metro system will be implemented in three stages and thereby use as many existing rail lines.

Metrô do Cariri

Metrô do Cariri is a future project of Metrofor. In the first phase are 9 stations will be built and a rail route of 13.6 km in length. It is estimated that about 5,000 passengers are transported on this route pró day.
