  • La fontana di Villa Medici al tramonto ( The Fountain of the Villa Medici at dusk )

The composer presented the following program ahead score:

" In this symphonic poem, the composer wanted to express feelings and history that were awake at the sight of four Roman fountains in it, and each time to the time of day when their character most consistent with the relevant environment, or their beauty on the viewer makes the biggest impression. The first part of the seal receives its inspiration from the fountain in the Valle Giulia and paints a pastoral landscape. Sheep pull over and lose themselves in the fresh humid haze of a Roman dawn. Sudden loud and extended horns sound over trillerndem Orchestra opens the second part: the Triton fountain. It is like a joyful signal call, come running to the naiads and tritons in droves, mutually prosecuting, before initiating a frenzied dance in the middle of the water jets. A solemn theme plays through the waves of the orchestra: the Trevi fountain at noon. The solemn theme comes from the wooden - on the brass and takes a triumphant character. Fanfares sound: on bright water surface pulls the car Neptune, drawn by sea horses, with an entourage of sirens and tritons over. The train moves away, while muted trumpet blasts resound from afar. The fourth part is heralded by a sad theme that rises like on a soft murmur. It is the melancholy hour of sunset. The air is full of bells, chirping birds, rustling leaves. Then it dies everything gently in the silence of the night. "
