Four Roses

Four Roses is an American Bourbon whiskey brand.

History

The brand name was protected in 1888 by Paul Jones Jr., an entrepreneur from Louisville, Kentucky. The Four Roses Distillery near Lawrenceburg was built in 1911 and is still in operation today. The building, which was designed in the Spanish Mission style, has been on the National Register of Historic Places and thus stands under monument protection. The Prohibition-era survived the company mainly due to the acquisition of the Frankfort Distilling Company, who were allowed to produce one of the few firms alcohol to " medical purposes ". After years of expansion, the company was taken over in 1943 by the Canadian company Seagram. Especially in the European market Four Roses Straight Bourbon was a major brand. Following the acquisition of the Seagram group by Vivendi in 2002, the distillery was bought by the Japanese Kirin Brewery Company. To change the name Four Roses a secret is made as before. According to legend, the name goes back to the four roses, which once was the beloved of the founder, their marriage vows.
