Fourmile Lake

Fourmile Lake ( or Four Mile Lake ) is a reservoir at a height of 1753 m above sea level in Klamath County, Oregon in the United States. It is located about 70 km northeast of Medford. The lake was formed when the 25 feet ( about 7.6 meters ) high Fourmile Lake Dam was built, with the opening into the Klamath River Fourmile Creek was dammed. It is located directly east of the 2896 m high Mount McLoughlin. At the lake borders the Sky Lakes Wilderness, he himself is within the Winema National Forest.

History

The Fish Lake Water Company was founded in 1898 to assist in the irrigation of the Rogue Valley. The company proposed to this end, to create the Fourmile Lake and expand the nearby Fish Lake in order to store more water can. The Fourmile Lake Dam was built in 1906, the Fish Lake was completed two years later. 1915, both lakes were connected by the Cascade Canal, directs the water from Fourmile Lake of the watershed in the Cascade Range to Fish Lake. The dam was repaired in 1955 and a new relief channel has been added.

Hydrology

The Fish Lake has a surface area of ​​300 hectares, an average volume of 19.2 million m³, and it drains a catchment area of 270 km ². The reservoir has a maximum depth of 52 m. The dam has a height of 25 feet (7.6 m ) and a length of 200 m.

Fauna

Rainbow trout, kokanee, brown trout and lake trout are the native American in the lake fish species. Packrat and Golden-mantled ground squirrel, both unthreatened mammal species are native to the lake.

Leisure

The Pacific Crest Trail passes in only three and a half kilometers away at Fourmile Lake. The lake lies within the Winema National Forest. The Sky Lakes Wilderness is adjacent to the lake; in it leads into a hiking trail. Near the lake is a campsite there. Popular in Seebesuchern activities include fishing, swimming and boating.
