Fox Theatre (San Francisco, California)

The Fox Theatre in San Francisco was one of the largest and most opulent movie palaces of the interwar period. The large cinema with a mental capacity of about 4500 people was opened on 28 June 1929 and closed on 15 February 1963. A farewell party with numerous Hollywood stars on 16 February was followed by the demolition, which was completed on August 12. It was planned that by the architect Thomas W. Lamb Cinema for the film magnate William Fox. Valuable parts of the inventory were auctioned on February 28, 1963. The mighty Wurlitzer theater organ of the company is now in the movie " El Capitan " in Los Angeles. At the point of the movie palace in Market Street today is an office block called Fox Plaza.
