Framing (construction)

Under skeleton ( sometimes called the skeleton construction ) is understood in the architecture and construction, a type of the structure of a building. In this case, the shell of the building is composed of elements that have a primary load-bearing function. Like a skeleton so creates a support structure.

Below the skeleton is covered with a facade (skin or shell ) and usually extended inside with non-load bearing walls. In contrast to the load-bearing masonry, vertical components of the skeleton structure often take no final function of the room. An exception to this are, among others, some types of Fertigteilbaues - for example, the timber frame - in which the main elements are prefabricated in the sense of the interior work.

Material

Typical materials of construction of frame construction are wood, steel and reinforced concrete, ie materials that can bridge large spans and, if appropriate, can be put together modularly.
