France Prešeren

Prešeren ( Germanized often used to Franz Preschern; born December 3, 1800 Vrba in the former Duchy of Carniola, † February 8, 1849 in Kranj, Kranj time ) is considered the greatest Slovenian poet.

Life

Prešeren was the third of eight children in a peasant family. After attending school in Reifnitz and Ljubljana, he studied in Vienna Law, where he became interested in poetry. After his graduation he worked as a lawyer. While studying in Vienna (1821-1828), he learned the Klinkowströmschen Institute on Schlesingerplatz ( plaque ) the German krainer poet Anton von Auersperg (pseudonym: Anastasius Grün ) know, as the Slovenian literary critic Bartholomew ( Jernej ) Kopitar and Matthias Chop ( Matija Čop ). In 1832 he moved to Klagenfurt. There he laid on May 26, the Court of Appeal ( plaque at the new place) the lawyer exam, in which he nearly flunked because he researched for the accused - this had affected his whole subsequent career; he applied several times in vain for a Law firm, which he received in Kranj ( Kranj ) until 1846. In Klagenfurt, he joined with the Carinthian Slovene Writers' Urban Jarnik in contact, whom he visited in Moosburg, as well as the Spiritual Anton Martin Slomšek. In Ljubljana (Ljubljana), where he lived as an employee of a law firm from 1828 to 1846, the citizens of the world found little appeal and lonely; his great love Julia Primitz ( Julija Primic ) wanted to know nothing of it, although a part of the output Poezije in acrostic bore her name. In 1839 he met at her house the worker Ana Jelovšek know, who bore him three children, but then left him. Vereinsamt he died of liver cirrhosis. Today he is considered the Slovene national poet.

Works

Prešeren wrote love and nature poetry, as well as a great historical epic The Baptism at the Savica ( Krst pri Savici ). In 1847, his main work Poezije appeared ( poetry ). With his German poems and sonnets, he also belongs to the German literature. His most important German -language work is The Great Gate ( "Ta velik Vrata " ), in which he explained his connection to Ljubljana.

Honors

A part of his poem Toast is today the Slovenian national anthem, his image graces the back of the Slovenian two - euro coin.

Was named after Prešeren the main square of Ljubljana, the Preseren Square.

The Slovenian Ministry of Culture awards since 1947, one or two artists every year the so -called Great Prešeren Award. At the same time adds, also based at the Slovenian Ministry of Culture Prešeren Foundation at up to six artists the price of Prešeren Foundation.
