Francesco de Mura

Francesco de Mura (* April 21, 1696 in Naples, † August 19, 1782 ) was an Italian painter between Baroque and Classicism in Naples.

Life-history

In Naples, he began his training in 1709 with Domenico Viola. Later he moved to Francesco Solimena, where he remained as his most important students and staff to 1730. In 1728 he married Anna d' Ebru.

He is considered one of the best decorative painter and colorist of the 18th century in Naples, whose painting the comparison with Tiepolo is not afraid. He left in Neapolitan churches and palaces countless frescoes and panel paintings. He also worked in Caiazzo, Capua, Montecassino, Salerno, Foggia and Turin. The earliest ascribed painting " The Crucified " for the Chiesa di San Girolamo all Monache in Naples is from 1713. During the numerous frescoes and panel paintings of the period 1730-1730 still clearly reveal the influence of Solimena, he presented himself later with an individual style, which combines the artistic influences of his era in itself.

1741, he was appointed to the royal court of Turin, to paint frescoes in the Palazzo Reale with mythological themes. During this time he had close contact with the architect Filippo Juvarra and Benedetto Alfieri and with the painter Corrado Ciaquinto, from whom he received important artistic impulses. 1743 he returned to Naples, where he was appointed court painter to the Bourbon kings. Two of his students were in Naples and Pietro Elia Interguglielmi Bardellino.
