Francesco Donato

Francesco Dona (* around 1468, † May 23, 1553 ) was from 1545 to 1553 the 79th Doge of Venice. His Dukat was characterized by a long period of peace, connected to a flourishing of trade.

Family

The Dona were among the most respected new families. The family produced between the 16th and the 17th century three doges, except Francesco Leonardo Dona Dona and Nicolò, also eight procurators and a cardinal.

The Dogenamt

During his Dukat the Sala del Consiglio dei Dieci in the Doge's Palace was built. At the facilities of the hall with paintings of young Veronese was involved.

For lack of volunteer teams for the galleys sat Venice for the first time convicts as a crew. These galleys were used exclusively for the fight against the pirates in the Adriatic.

Tomb

The tomb was destroyed in the 1816 Servite church. His remains were transferred to a family chapel in the Dona Mareno di Piave ( Treviso ).
