Francesco Monterisi

Francesco Cardinal Monte Risi ( born May 28, 1934 in Barletta, Province of Barletta -Andria -Trani, Italy) is a retired cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and Emeritus Archpriest of the Patriarchal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy Monterisi received on 16 May 1957, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Pope John Paul II granted him on 22 June 1979 title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.

On December 24, 1982 John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Alba Maritima and Pro-Nuncio in Korea. He received his episcopal consecration John Paul II on January 6, 1983 at St. Peter's Basilica. 1993 Monte Risi was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia - Herzegovina and finally appointed on 7 May 1998 in the Office of the Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops.

On July 3, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls.

In solemn consistory of November 20, 2010 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Paolo alla Regola in the College of Cardinals. On November 23, 2012 Benedict XVI accepted. the risk of Francesco Monte put forward reasons of age resignation from the office of archpriest of the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls on.

Monte Risi is honor - Konventualkaplan of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
