Francesco Petrini

Francesco Petrini (* 1744 in Berlin, † 1819 in Paris) was a French harpist and composer.

Life

Francesco Petrini received as his sister Marie -Thérèse Petrini (1736-1814) Harp and composition lessons at his coming from Italy father, who in the Rheinberger court orchestra was Frederick the Great harpist as early as 1735. Following a stint at the court of Mecklenburg -Schwerin in the time from 1765 to 1769 he went to Paris, where he joined as a harpist at the 1770 Concert spiritual in appearance. From 1798 he was editor of the monthly journal Le Glaneur lyrique, with pedagogical suggestions for harpists and short compositions.

His son Henri Petrini ( 1775 - circa 1800 ), also played harp and already published in children 's first compositions, including his four Harp Sonatas opp.3 and 5, several collections Airs Variés and a collection of songs with harp accompaniment.

Work

Petrini wrote mainly for his instrument, his works met the taste of the Parisian audience, in which they arrived successfully, to Jean -Baptiste Krumpoltz surpassed him in the favor of the same. Nevertheless, Petrini was still in demand as a teacher of harp and harmony. He published in 1796 a harp school ( Méthode pour la Harpe, avec la manière de l' accorder ), which was included in the new to the 20th century in use, as well as a theory of harmony (1796 ), the 1810 in an enlarged edition under the title " Étude préliminaire de la Composition, selon le nouveau systhème de l' harmonie de soixante accords " appeared.
