Francesco Piranesi

Francesco Piranesi (* 1756 (or 1758) in Rome; ? † January 23, 1810 in Paris ) was an Italian engraver and architect.

Francesco Piranesi was the son of the engraver, archaeologist and architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Like his father, he created etchings of monuments in the city of Rome, where he, like his father laid a special emphasis on the ancient art and architectural works, which included, for example, the Baths of Diocletian. He drew in 1785 the first commercially available plan of Pompeii, which was launched in two more revisions, until 1793. In addition, he produced images of different architectural monuments of Pompeii, like the tomb of the priestess Mamia or the Temple of Isis at. In 1798 he went to France. His siblings Laura and Pietro Piranesi Piranesi were also successful artists.
