Francis de Geronimo

Franz de Hieronymo ( born December 17, 1642 Grottaglie, † May 11, 1716 in Naples) was a monk in the Order of Jesuits and is a Catholic saint.

Life

Franz de Hieronymo was one of the leading folk missionaries of his time. If it had been his own desires, he would have acted as a missionary in the Far East, but wanted it to his superiors that he worked as a missionary people in Naples. The tradition describes his preaching as compelling and inspiring. Of his sermons several thousand pages have been preserved, through which one can gain a very accurate insight into the homiletic practice of the late 17th and early 18th century. Franz de Hieronymo founded social charities vulnerable girls, young women, workers and convicts. After his death he was buried in his birthplace. His beatification took place in 1806, which was canonized in 1836.
