Francis Edward Hyland

Francis Edward Hyland ( born October 9, 1901 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, † January 31, 1968 ) was Bishop of Atlanta.

Life

Paul John Hallinan received on 11 June 1927, Auxiliary Bishop Michael Joseph Crane the sacrament of ordination to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

On October 15, 1949, he was named by Pope Pius XII. Titular Bishop of Gomphi and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Savannah - Atlanta. The archbishop of Philadelphia, Denis Joseph Cardinal Dougherty, donated to him on 21 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Hugh Louis Lamb and Joseph Carroll McCormick.

On July 17, 1956, he was named by Pope Pius XII. the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Atlanta. The inauguration took place on 8 November of that year.

On October 11, 1961 Hyland resigned as Bishop of Atlanta and was called by Pope John XXIII. appointed Titular Bishop of Bisica.
