Francis Matthey

Francis Matthey ( born July 17, 1942) is a Swiss politician of the Social Democratic Party.

He became known by the rejection of his were made on 3 March 1993 elections to the Federal Council. Matthey had been elected instead of nominated by his party Christiane Brunner. In order to follow the resolution of his party for the collection of a woman in the Bundesrat, he refused to accept the office after a period of consideration. Ruth Dreifuss was finally Federal Councillor and thus the successor of René Felber.

From 1980 to 1988, Matthey Mayor of La Chaux -de-Fonds, 1987-1995 Member of the National Council from 1988 to 2001 Member of the State Council of the Canton of Neuchâtel.

By 2011, Matthey was president of the Federal Commission on Migration.
