Francisco Herrera the Younger

Francisco Herrera (el Mozo ) (* 1622 in Seville, † August 25, 1685 in Madrid) was a Spanish painter and architect. He was the son of Francisco Herrera ( El Viejo), considered the head of the Sevillian school of painting in the period 1610-1640.

Herrera the Younger worked from 1672 as court painter to the Spanish royal court. He painted mainly portraits and religious subjects and was the contemporary Italian painters close in his works.

His buildings include the Sanctuary Basilica del Pilar in Zaragoza, which he began in 1681.
