Francisco José Ynduráin

Francisco José Ynduráin ( born December 23, 1940 in Benavente (Zamora ); † 6 June 2008) was a Spanish theoretical physicist who dealt with quantum field theory, gauge theories and theoretical particle physics. Yndurain was a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Yndurain grew up in Zaragoza and studied at the University of Zaragoza mathematics with a diploma degree in 1962 and was there received his doctorate in physics in 1964. As a post - graduate student he was at CERN and from 1966 assistant professor in Zaragoza. From 1966 to 1968 he was at New York University and then to 1970 at CERN. In 1970 he became a professor at the Complutense University in Madrid and soon after at the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he built a theoretical particle physics group. 1974 to 1977 and 1981 to 1984 he was head of the theoretical physics in 1975 and dean from 1978 to 1981 Deputy Rector.

He was a frequent guest scientist at CERN and from 1988 to 1994 in the Science Policy Committee. He has been a visiting scientist in Caracas, at the University of Paris-Sud, at the University of La Plata, in Groningen, the University of Michigan, in Marseille, the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research, at NIKHEF in Amsterdam, the Brookhaven National Laboratory and at Princeton University.

From it, a standard textbook on quantum chromodynamics.

He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Exact Science, and from 2002 to 2006 chairman of the department of physics and chemistry since 1992. In 2004 he became Secretary General of the Instituto de Espana.
