Francisco Robles Ortega

Francisco Robles Ortega Cardinal (born 2 March 1949 in Mascota, Mexico) is Archbishop of Guadalajara.

Life

Francisco Robles Ortega visited the seminaries of Autlán de Navarro and Zamora. He received on 20 July 1976, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Then Robles Ortega went for further studies in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University and earned a licentiate in dogmatics. Later he was rector of the seminary of Autlán de Navarro. In July 1990, Robles Ortega was appointed Diocesan Administrator of Autlán.

On 30 April 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed auxiliary bishop in Toluca and Titular Bishop of Bossa. The episcopal ordination took place on June 5th of that year. Pope John Paul II elevated Francisco Robles Ortega on June 15, 1996 Bishop of Toluca. This Robles Ortega took office a month later on.

On January 25, 2003 John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Monterrey. Francisco Robles Ortega came to this office on 28 April of the same year.

24 November 2007 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria della Presentazione in the College of Cardinals. Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 7 December 2011 as the Archbishop of Guadalajara. The inauguration took place on 7 February 2012.

June 30, 2012 he was appointed Benedict XVI. together with the Bishop of Hong Kong, John Tong Hon, Cardinal and Archbishop of Kinshasa, Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, delegated to the President of the XIII. General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops ( October 7 to 28, 2012).

In the 94th General Assembly of the Mexican bishops on 14 November 2012, he was elected as the new president of the bishops' conference in the country. The term of office is 2015.
