Franciszek Lessel

Franciszek Lessel (* 1780 in Pulawy, † December 26, 1838 in Piotrków ) was a Polish composer.

The son of composer Wincenty Ferdynand Lessel began in 1797 to study medicine in Vienna, but soon turned to the music and became a pupil of Joseph Haydn. In 1810 he returned to Poland, where he worked as an estate manager until 1830. After he had lost the place as a result of the Polish uprising, he finally got the post of school inspector in Piotrków.

His extensive body of work includes, among other things, an opera, six symphonies, a piano concerto, an orchestral overture, an Adagio and Rondo for Piano and Orchestra and other orchestral works, chamber music, including a fantasy caractéristique for String Quartet and Quartet for Flute and Strings, Ten Past songs, songs and church music.
