François Albert-Buisson

François Albert -Buisson ( May 3, 1881 in Issoire, Puy-de -Dôme, † May 21, 1961 in Aix -en- Provence) was a French judge, politician and historian and member of the Académie française.

Life

The son of a shoe manufacturer studied post-school first pharmacy and finished this study with a doctoral degree. Another study of law, he graduated with a Doctor of Law and subsequently founded the pharmaceutical laboratory Théraplix.

He was then in 1913 a judge at the Commercial Court (Tribunal de Commerce ) of Paris, which he was president from 1930 to 1934. In the meantime, he was also from June 1924 to April 1925 Cabinet Director of Finance Étienne Clémentel. Subsequently, he became mayor of his native town Issoire and held this post until 1941.

He was also manager of numerous industrial companies and banks as well as president of the National Foreign Trade Bank Banque nationale française pour le commerce extérieur ( BNFCE ). In 1932 he was the founding President of the Trade and Industry Bank Banque nationale pour le commerce et l'industrie ( BNCI ) and later from 1936 to 1959 chairman of the board of the pharmaceutical and chemical company Rhone- Poulenc. In addition, he was in 1936 a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, whose permanent secretary he was in 1951.

Between May 1940 and 1944 he was also senator for the department of Puy -de- Dôme.

1953 he was appointed Minister of Education André Marie chancellor and secretary of the Central Administrative Commission of the Institut de France. These offices he held until his death. In addition, he was elected to succeed Émile Mâle a member of the Académie française on March 3, 1955, and took over in this until his death, the second seating ( armchair 2). Together with him, Jean Cocteau and Daniel - Rops were elected to the Academy.

1961 was awarded to him shortly before his death, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.

In addition to his activities as a judge and business manager, he published several law and economics science books as well as numerous historical monographs on Antoine Duprat, Michel de L'Hospital and Jean -François Paul de Gondi, Cardinal de Retz. His publications include:
