François Bocion

François -Louis David Bocion ( born March 30, 1828 in Lausanne, † December 13, 1890 ) was a Swiss painter in the style of Impressionism. Bocion gained as a " painter of Lake Geneva " international celebrity.

Life

François Bocion came from a wealthy family in Lausanne. Early on, he got drawing lessons with the painter Christian Gottlieb Steinlen at the École de Moyenne in Vevey, then the French landscape painter François Bonnet in Lausanne. In 1845 he traveled to Paris, where he worked in the studios of Louis -Aimé Claude Gros and Charles Gleyre to 1847. At first, he mainly painted historical pictures, but soon he moved to maritime painting. To 1849, he took a job as an art teacher at the École de Moyenne in Lausanne. Among his pupils were, among others, Théophile Steinlen and Eugène Grasset.
