François de Clermont-Tonnerre

François de Clermont Tonnerre (* 1629, † February 15, 1701 in Paris) was a bishop and Count of Noyon.

Life

François de Clermont Tonnerre was the second son of the Count of Clermont Tonnerre and François de Clermont Tonnerre, Lieutenant General of Burgundy, and Marie Vignier (1603-1679), daughter of the president of the Burgundian State Parliament ( États de Bourgogne ), Jacques Vignier. He studied with the Jesuits in Paris and received his doctorate from the Sorbonne as a doctor of theology. Appointed Bishop and Count of Noyon and peer of France in 1660, he received episcopal consecration on 2 October 1661. In 1694 he became a member of the Académie française. 1695 he chaired the National Assembly of the French clergy.

Saint -Simon describes in his memoirs ( Memoirs ) especially Clermont- Tonnerres oversized vanity, which seems to have been his most prominent feature.
