François de Joyeuse

François de Joyeuse (* June 24, 1562 in Carcassonne, France; † August 23, 1615 in Avignon ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and so important French clergyman.

He was Archbishop of Narbonne (from 1581), Toulouse (from 1588) and Rouen ( from 1604). From 1587 to 1590 he was the successor of his brother Anne de Joyeuse Duke of Joyeuse, before he abdicated the duchy to his brother Antoine Scipion. He was also from 1604 to 1611, Cardinal Bishop of Sabina and from 1611 until his death, Cardinal Bishop of Ostia. He was born on December 12, 1583 by Pope Gregory XIII. elevated to Cardinal, 1585-1587 of the titular church of San Silvestro in Capite 1587-1594 of Holy Trinity al Monte Pincio and 1594 bsi 1605 of St. Peter in Chains.
