François Duquesnoy

François Duquesnoy ( born January 12, 1597 Brussels, † July 12, 1643 in Livorno) was a Flemish sculptor.

He lived since 1618 in Rome and held a moderate classical direction of the Baroque. Important works are St. Andreas in St. Peter's Basilica ( 1629-1640 ) and St.. Susanna in Santa Maria di Loreto ( 1629-1633 ). A frequently recurring motif in Duquesnoy sculptures are the autonomous representations of putti, which he implemented several times as allegories (eg in the Galleria Doria Pamphili ) or in the form mehransichtiger free sculptures (such as the Christ Child with the Passion tools) in marble or bronze, and which the Clothing of Baroque putto coined term.

His father Jeremo the Elder created in 1619 the famous fountain statue Manneken Pis in Brussels.
