François Eudes de Mézeray

François Eudes de Mézeray (* 1610 in Ri at Argentan, Normandy, † July 10, 1683 in Paris) was a French writer and historian.

Life

François Eudes was born the son of a surgeon. During the period of his stay in Paris, he participated in the chosen for a place additional de Mézeray. This annex should cover his humble origins and reflect a better social position.

Mézeray studied at the University of Caen, then at the Sorbonne. In Paris, he earned his living by satirical writings and other literary works.

He spent two years in the army reluctantly straightening officer in the artillery and took part in the campaigns in Flanders.

Mézeray was historian of France and incorporated in 1648 as the successor of Vincent Voiture to the Académie Française. From 1675 he was a regular (as successor by Valentin Conrart ) Secretary of the Académie. At the conclusion of the dictionary from 1694 he played a major role.

One of his brothers was the father and founder of the Order of Eudists Johannes ( Jean) Eudes.
