Françoise Basseporte

Madeleine -Françoise Basseporte ( born April 28, 1701 Paris, † September 6, 1780 ibid ) was a French painter and engraver, whose work was focus on the representation of botanical motifs.

Life and work

Françoise Basseporte was a student of nature painter Claude Aubriet. After the death of her teacher she was by the French king Louis XV. instructed to give his daughters drawing lessons. She also received the order the plant collection of Jean -Baptiste Gaston de Bourbon, duc d' Orléans supplement on parchment. In the following years Basseporte also worked for the chemist Guillaume- François Rouelle, the sculptor Pierre -Hubert Larchevêque (1721-1778) and the botanist Bernard de Jussieu.
