Frane Bulić

Frane Bulić ( born October 4, 1846 in Vranjic (now belonging to the municipality of Solin ); † July 29, 1934 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslav archaeologist and historian.

Life

Frane ( Franz ) Bulić was born in 1846 in Split suburb Vranjic. He first studied theology at the seminary Zadar, with ordination to the priesthood in 1869, and then directly from 1870 to 1873 Classics and Archaeology at the University of Vienna, including Alexander Conze. In 1873 he became a teacher of classical languages ​​at the high school split, and the following year in Dubrovnik. As a 30 -year-old returned Bulić 1877 returned to Vienna, and studied ancient epigraphy among others at Otto Benndorf and Otto Hirschfeld. During the 1880s Bulić was in contact with the Italian epigraphists Giovanni Battista de Rossi and visited this several times in Rome.

In 1880 he was honorary curator of the Vienna district kk Central Commission on Monuments and 1883 Director of the later named after him Archbishop Classical High School Split, and the kk Archaeological Museum Split ( until 1926 ).
