Frank Busemann

Frank Busemann ( born February 26, 1975 in Recklinghausen ) is a former German athlete who is known for his successes in the decathlon and hurdles.

Sporting career

Busemann began to focus on the 110 meters hurdles at the age of 16 years. First international successes came with a bronze at the U -20 European Championships 1993 and winning the U -20 World Championships the following year.

His first decathlon, he played in 1994 with 7938 points. In spring 1996, Busemann be decided due to lack of prospects in the hurdles address the decathlon.

After a fifth place in the major multi-discipline meeting in Götzis followed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, winning the silver medal behind the American Dan O'Brien. In this competition, he presented his personal best 8706 points on and with 13.47 seconds over 110 meters hurdles the best ever performance achieved in this particular discipline within a decathlon. For his success at the Olympics, he was elected Athlete of the Year in Germany.

At the 1997 World Championships in Athens, he reached 8652 points, the bronze medal behind the Czech Tomáš Dvořák, and the Finn Eduard Hämäläinen. In the U -23 European Championships in the same year he won gold in the 110 m hurdles.

At the World Championships 1999 he had to give up already in the second discipline due to a thigh muscle injury. The preparation for the Olympic Games in Sydney was not injury-free. He ended his Olympic competition with 8351 points on the seventh rank.

The 2001 World Championships he had to cancel due to injury.

His final completion decathlon was the all-around meeting in Ratingen 2001 as second with 8192 points. In June 2003, he announced the end of his athletic career. Overall, he finished his career in twelve ten fights.

He was trained by his father, Franz -Josef and Bernd Busemann Knut.

After sports

Since 2003, Busemann has worked as an expert and co-commentator for ARD.

In addition to various activities in the field of sport, including as sports director of the German Center for Preventive Medicine, Busemann offers since 2011 lectures, seminars and project work for companies.
