Frank D. Gilroy

Frank Daniel Gilroy ( born October 13, 1925 in New York City ) is an American author and film director.

Life

Growing up in upstate New York, he attended Dartmouth College and graduated from the Yale School of Drama its conclusion. Then he made himself primarily as a screenwriter for film theater and a name. His biggest success in 1966 his first Broadway play, "The Subject Was Roses ," the Tony Award, a Critics' Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize which he won. A successful and award-winning film version (including with Martin Sheen ) was followed two years later. For his screenplay for Desperate people he was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1971.

Gilroy and his wife, Ruth, have three sons, Tony, John and Dan, who are also active as writers, the latter is married to actress Rene Russo.
