Frank Little (bishop)

Thomas Francis Little KBE ( born November 30, 1925 in Werribee, Victoria, Australia, † April 7, 2008 in Camberwell, Melbourne), Frank Little, was Archbishop of Melbourne.

Life

Frank Little attended Corpus Christi College, then the Werribee College. From 1943 he studied theology from 1947 to that of Gregory XV. 1622 founded the Collegio di Propaganda Fide in Rome. There he received the priesthood in 1950 by the Cardinal Pietro Biondi Fumasoni. He then completed doctoral studies at the Pontifical Urban University, where he became a PhD in 1953 for Doctor of Sacred Theology (STD).

After pastoral activities, he was from 1956 to 1959 in Sydney Secretary of Romolo Carboni, the apostolic delegate in Australia. He then worked at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne, and in 1965 the dean. In 1971 he moved to the parish of St. Ambrose, Brunswick. He engaged in particular for the numerous migrants in Australia, especially Italian immigrants. In addition to teaching at the seminary he was a member of the Ecumenical Commission of the Archdiocese of Melbourne and Chairman of the Victorian Action for World Development, Episcopal Vicar for the Laity and Kaplan.

1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Temuniana and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Melbourne and later Cardinal James Robert Knox on February 21, 1973 Co-consecrators were John Neil Cullinane, Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, and Ronald Austin Mulkearns, Bishop of Ballarat.

Following the appointment of James Robert Cardinal Knox Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments Frank Little was appointed in 1974 for the sixth Archbishop of Melbourne.

In 1977 he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE ). 1992, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in theology of the Melbourne College of Divinity (MCD ).

1996 his resignation for health reasons was granted by Pope John Paul II.
