Frankenthal Central Station is the only station of the city of Frankenthal. Besides Frankenthal Main Station, there is the breakpoint Flomersheim in Frankenthal. It is planned another breakpoint Frankenthal south part of the expansion of the S- Bahn Rhein Neckar.

Location

The train station is centrally located in the city center of Frankenthal. Through the station run various railway lines; it is the terminus of the railway connection between Freinsheim and Frankenthal. At the station there is a bakery, a newspaper stand and a journal collection.

History

In November 1853, a track was opened by the Palatine Ludwig Railway to the Hessian border at Frankenthal. Thus, the Frankenthal station was built initially as provisional. In 1860, the route between Worms and Ludwigshafen am Rhein was expanded to double track. The official inauguration of Frankenthaler central station finally took place on 15 November 1870. On October 15, 1877, the railway connection Freinsheim - Frankenthal leads into the station.

From 1890 to 1939, the meter gauge railway Pfälzische drove in front of the station in the direction Großkarlbach ( 1891-1939 ) and the direction of Ludwigshafen ( 1890-1933 ) from. South of the station there was also a connection between local railway and normalspuriger State Railways for reloading of the goods.

Architecture

The first station building, which opened in 1870, was similar with its arched windows and its clock tower very the station building of the former Ludwigshafen head station. After the Second World War, a new building was built in the style of the 1950s.

Future

The reconstruction of the main station is planned for the year 2014: The platforms will be brought to a height of 76 cm, as well as the railway station and travel center rebuilt. From the timetable change in December 2015, the S- Bahn Rhein Neckar is run here.

The three platform tracks of Frankenthaler Central Station are about 300 m long and have a height of 38 cm currently ( as of 2014: 76 cm).
